12 in ’12

2012 new year so many possibilities
Happy New Year, friends. I’m putting all of my oomph and spirit into this year and I have strong feelings that this will be a special one for us all. So with that, I’m writing 12 of my goals for 2012. I look forward to sharing these with you throughout the year. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun.

  1. Focus on what I love and do it more often. Whether at my job or at play I want to find joy in my work and product. And if I don’t, then I have the power to change it.
  2. Take care of my mind and my body. Do yoga often. Drink more water. Stretch. Strengthen my shoulder. Reflect. I want to be as healthy as I am now for my whole life for myself, family and friends.
  3. Cook my food to-do list. Why haven’t I made my own pasta yet or chocolate hazelnut macarons? I want to take advantage of my mixer, dutch oven, cookbooks and all of my kitchen toys to make new (more challenging) things.
  4. Entertain. Because I want to share all this great new food with people. So come on over, why don’t you? I’ll cook. We’ll have tons of fun.
  5. Collaborate. There are so many talented bloggers and friends I’d love to work with this year. Let’s make something pretty together.
  6. Read more. Thank goodness for my new Kindle Fire. Book Club will actually be Book Club this year. I’ve also been shamefully out of know when it comes to current events and politics. I’ll get back to reading the news every day and be informed and ready for this election.
  7. Embrace turning 25. I have until April to be ok with this number. I feel confident I’ll get there.
  8. Know my money. I want to be more aware of my finances. This means getting a credit card (and of course paying it all off on time!), knowing what to save on, and knowing what to spend on. Some big purchases are worth it (like maybe the new rug or desk or coffee table I can’t stop thinking about).
  9. Give back. I will donate more clothes, volunteer more often with my favorite DC causes, shop local, smile at strangers. Let’s all try to get along and make this world a better, more beautiful place.
  10. Stay original. Create. In this little blog world we live in, photos and topics seem to be recycled over and over. I want to push myself and everyone else to create new inspiring things for us all. (But relish in the moment when you share the same image with a fellow blogger – it’s called “great minds…”!)
  11. Treat myself and treat myself well. The past few years I’ve been very focused on the success and well-being of others. While this is in my nature and I will never stop doing this, I want to remind myself that I should be doing this for me too. I deserve it.
  12. Take risks. This is my year of risk taking, a very un-Nikki thing. But I’m determined to do it because I know it will result in great things.
So cheers to 2012! What are you looking forward to?

Happy 2011

happy new year friends!

I’m excited for this brand new year. A few blog-related resolutions to start me off:

  • Redesign! I want to put my web skills to the test and design a blog that is way more fabulous than this one.
  • Take better photos. I got a beautiful Panasonic Lumix camera for Christmas and I plan on learning how to use it and improving my photos.
  • Take the time to write more stories. Food is so important to me and I have so much to say about it. Remember that I want to be a writer.
  • Be more adventurous in the kitchen. I’m not going to pull a Julie and work my way through Mastering the Art of French Cooking – but I can always cook more, and I can always cook something new and different.
  • Finally, to recognize more often all of the amazing and inspiring blogs and bloggers out there. We overlook it so often, but I will try to comment when I read. And I can start with the great ones I’ve listed on the right.

There…that’s a start. Bonne Année!

Holiday snow and cookies in DC

Happy new year. One of my resolutions is to blog more and to blog more meaningfully. So sadly, I’m finally getting up posts on my Christmas cookies, which I baked during the snOMG storm in DC during the holidays.

The following posts are two of my favorite and go-to recipes and I’m very excited to share them with you. While I’m sick of the cold already in the city, it will most likely stay this way and hopefully give you a snow day to bake some of my cookies. And play in a snow ball fight. And warm up with some hot chocolate. Cheers.
