Like Grape Sorbet

I have a new color crush. I recently bought these Gap jeans (I promise they look better in person than on that model – see how I wore them here.) and now I’m seeing this bright grape color everywhere. It’s fun and summery and instantly reminds me of creamy, cool grape sorbet. Even as a little pop on your nails, you have to add a little of grape in your life! (You know, besides a that daily glass of wine.)

Our Thanksgiving Table

I wanted to share some scenes from our lovely Thanksgiving table. Most everyone asked me what I was baking, but unlike last year, I kept the sugar in the pantry and instead helped with other tasks. (My aunt brought all of the amazing desserts including a fantastic blueberry pie!)

I set and decorated our tables in purple and gold, with a fruit-filled cornucopia centerpiece and shimmering candles. My mom made beautiful “I am thankful” tags, which each person filled out and hung on the chandelier. For a veggie platter, I took a tip from Martha and wrapped glass bowls in cabbage leaves and made dip bowls from radicchio heads. I loved how this spread turned out! We all noshed on veggies while watching my older brother deep fry a turkey. This was the first year we’ve done this and it was a huge hit. We didn’t burn down the house and we had a lot of fun with it too. After the turkey was done, we deep fried some cranberry sauce…yes, cranberry sauce…and those little “pies” were just incredible.

I had a really nice Thanksgiving with family and friends and I hope you did too. So take a peak…

Lovely Lavender

Growing up I was obsessed with color. No surprise there. I absolutely thought the best room accessory was a box of 96 Crayola Crayons…unused and perfectly pointy. I wasn’t color shy. And I loved bold, bright colors. While I guess I appreciated them, pastels weren’t my favorite.

When I was in 7th or 8th grade Pottery Barn Teen debuted their first catalog. I devoured those pages over and over and then I sat down at my blueberry iMac and wrote and sent them a 10-page letter in response. I told them what furniture I liked and which pieces I thought could use some improvements. I suggested new products and told them how I thought they were the greatest thing to appear in my mailbox. I even included photos and drawings. After all, I was the savvy, DIY-er, decorating-loving 13 year old they were marketing to, right?

One comment I specifically remember making was that they needed to change their color palette. Not all teenage girls like lavender, light pink and baby blue (although that’s Justin Timberlake’s favorite color, so I did understand). I urged them to make their textiles in plum, hot pink, and indigo. Those, I’d buy…er, have my mom buy.

I recalled this last night as I crawled into my cozy bed which is currently dressed with a lavender comforter and soft lavender sheets. (Minor fluke…I don’t really like matchy-matchy.) But It was calming and soothing. And I realized I do love decorating with lavender now, and even though hot pink and plum are still my favorite colors, I appreciate how my style and taste have evolved over the past 11 years.

I’m also proud to say PB Teen has plenty of bold, bright colors in their catalog now.

Ok enough rambling…time for some pretty pictures.

Perfectly Plum

Hello hello! I know I’ve been bad at blogging recently, but really it’s just because I’ve been keeping busy and life is so good. I blame the gorgeous weather and this guy for it a little :)

So to get back into it… some inspiration in the form of my favorite color plum. (It’s just gorgeous and also so fun to say, right?)

Promise to be back soon with some real writing and delicious baked goods.
