Lovely Lavender

Growing up I was obsessed with color. No surprise there. I absolutely thought the best room accessory was a box of 96 Crayola Crayons…unused and perfectly pointy. I wasn’t color shy. And I loved bold, bright colors. While I guess I appreciated them, pastels weren’t my favorite.

When I was in 7th or 8th grade Pottery Barn Teen debuted their first catalog. I devoured those pages over and over and then I sat down at my blueberry iMac and wrote and sent them a 10-page letter in response. I told them what furniture I liked and which pieces I thought could use some improvements. I suggested new products and told them how I thought they were the greatest thing to appear in my mailbox. I even included photos and drawings. After all, I was the savvy, DIY-er, decorating-loving 13 year old they were marketing to, right?

One comment I specifically remember making was that they needed to change their color palette. Not all teenage girls like lavender, light pink and baby blue (although that’s Justin Timberlake’s favorite color, so I did understand). I urged them to make their textiles in plum, hot pink, and indigo. Those, I’d buy…er, have my mom buy.

I recalled this last night as I crawled into my cozy bed which is currently dressed with a lavender comforter and soft lavender sheets. (Minor fluke…I don’t really like matchy-matchy.) But It was calming and soothing. And I realized I do love decorating with lavender now, and even though hot pink and plum are still my favorite colors, I appreciate how my style and taste have evolved over the past 11 years.

I’m also proud to say PB Teen has plenty of bold, bright colors in their catalog now.

Ok enough rambling…time for some pretty pictures.

Art Wall

I’ve got art on my mind….been thinking of adding some more pieces to my apartment. I just love the idea of an art wall. It could either be a little scattered or perfectly organized…not sure which one is exactly my style. I’m thinking I’d like to look for some vintage gold frames though. Some of my favorites for inspiration….

In My Closet…

Yesterday I blogged about my big apartment clean-up weekend, and some beautiful closets. While I’m no interior designer (I try!), I wanted to show just want one day of cleaning and organizing can do. Some of my favorite things are the closet rod I use to hang colorful bangles, frequently worn necklaces, and my Blair Waldorf headband collection; oh also the rainbow of color coded clothes.

A peak inside…

Trust me, this is the cleanest it will get. I will try to keep it this way, but that’s really not likely. Had to document…

Naughty and Nice

You know I’m attracted to design that is elegant and classic. I really dislike vulgar things and I rarely swear. However, I love the duality in these products. They’re pretty yet evil at the same time. Plates, dish towel, bottle opener and notecards…
