Working From Home With The Audrey Lamp

Cupcakes for Breakfast: Lulu & Georgia Audrey Lamp

It’s week three of my new job. It’s exciting and challenging and fun and I’m just thankful to be doing something I care about. Every day is different, which includes my location. Sometimes I’m working from our restaurants, other afternoons I’ll hole up at my favorite coffee shop, but my home base is my home.

Since I’m spending so much time at my desk now, I spent a little time making it feel inspiring and clean. I even found that I even love blogging from this spot too (as opposed to my bed or couch) and working here on the weekends. A job and a space that make me want to work? Makes me so happy!

The centerpiece of my new work space is this gorgeous Lulu & Georgia Audrey lamp. I just adore the buttercup color – it’s bright and sunny, which are exactly the kinds of things I want to be surrounded by while I’m working. It’s exactly the same color as my high school bedroom, which I think is why I first drawn to it. But the gold base makes it feel grown up and classy, tying the other gold accents on the desk together. I paired the gold with pops of bright pink to make the space even more cheery. Seriously every morning I’m excited to get out of bed and work here.

I’m not the only one who is obsessed with how their new Audrey lamp has transformed a space in their home. Head over to the Glitter Guide to see a few of my favorite bloggers sharing the Audrey in their homes too. I just love seeing how Liz, Victoria, Anna, and Caitlin style their spaces!

Finally, lucky for you, today you can get 10% off your own Lulu & Georgia Audrey lamp (it comes in six fab colors!) with the discount code AUDREYLAMP10! Where will you put yours?

Clean

I have to make some seriously change in my life. Here’s a confession: my apartment is a mess. I think I clean it every weekend, and then during the week, the clothes and dishes and paper and shoes just pile up. Mess, clean, repeat. Now that I only have one day off a week, I really need to reevaluate how I spend that time. The last thing I want to do is spend it cleaning. And when the rest of my life is busy and stressful, the last thing I want to come home to is a busy and stressful apartment…this does not help my sanity.

So I need to make a change. I need to learn to not make a mess. Prepare my outfit the night before so I don’t try on every dress in my closet every morning and don’t hang them back up. Wash my coffee cup before I leave for work. Read and sort my mail each night. Just maintain my personal space so it’s inspiring and comforting.

Have any other tips for keeping a clean house without really thinking about it? How do you keep your space inviting for yourself? Please share…I’ll absolutely try it out and report back.

My Studio Apartment Tour

This post is long overdue but oh well. I’ve received many questions about my studio apartment tour in the Everygirl (mostly about my pink ikat rug!), so I wanted to share a few more photos and provide some of the sources too. My favorite place to shop for my apartment is Home Goods (and Craigslist too), so a lot of those things can’t be sourced. But if I left out anything, leave me a comment and I’ll tell you where it’s from.

When I actually do sit down to write at my desk, it’s a fantastic place to work. But let’s be honest, I’m mostly blogging from my bed or couch.

A wall of windows really provides great light in my apartment and makes it feel so much bigger than it is.

For my wallpaper entry, I tore out full pages of magazines with images I love – food (the fired chicken photo might be my favorite), fashion, interiors, cute boys, colorful designs – and using double sided tape, I put them up in rows. I think there’s about 150 pages up on the wall. I can easily remove one image if I find another one I like.

Also, how embarrassing. I forgot to clean up that messy area above my fridge where I store bags of chips and pans. Oops. :)

If you haven’t already, head over to the Everygirl and read more about my apartment.

Oh, and if you want to see something hilarious, check out this post from 2009 where I share some photos from my then brand new apartment. It feels nice to look back and see how both my apartment and I have grown.

I’m an Everygirl

Nikki Rappaport the Everygirl home tour

I couldn’t be more excited to share with you my studio apartment tour on the Everygirl today! Not only have I wanted to share my whole place for a while now, but I’m so thrilled that it’s on the Everygirl – which was started by two girls who I’ve admired for a long time.

So check out my girly DC studio apartment and get to know a little bit more about me and my place. I hope you like it as much as I do!
