2012 Favorite Sweets

favorite 2012 desserts

One more final post of 2012. This one is really to thank everyone who made it such a great year: my family, many new and many old friends, new and old coworkers, my awesome supportive readers, other inspiring bloggers and creatives. 2012 was really the year of the friend for me. I can’t even begin to send my appreciation for everything all the people in my life have done to make this an incredible year.

A few highlights in desserts:

  • • I’m never short of good food nearby in DC and I shared many brunches, cocktails, doughnuts, lattes, gelato, and meals with wonderful friends
  • • Turning 25 and celebrating with all of my favorite people and some Whisked cupcakes
  • • I helped coordinate some beautiful weddings – and ate great cake at the end of each night!
  • • Bloggers becoming friends is pretty awesome. Even better when you’re eating fruit tarts at Martha Stewart or making funnel cake or chocolate soufflé together.
  • • Relaxing worry-free family vacations
  • • New friends, good coffee, fun music, real connections, breakfast pastries.

Cheers to more sweet moments in 2013! xo

2012 Favorite Posts

2012 was a fantastic year and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to share it all on my blog, on twitter, and through photos on instagram. Before we head into the new year (and I get to finally write all these posts I have in my head!) I wanted to share some of the highlights from this year. Can’t wait for 2013!

Washingtonian what I wear to work

I had my first real style post with the Washingtonian’s What I Wear to Work feature. Maybe next year I’ll start doing more of these!

election cake map

I made an electoral cake map with my friends and we spent election night filling in the states with red and blue frosting. *Reminder: must trademark cake stencils before 2016!

side by side pink polka dot

These Side by Side posts may seem simple, but they’re some of my favorite posts to put together. I especially love this pink polka dot one!

pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies

I loved these pumpkin snickerdoodle cookies – and so did you. Some of your other favorite dessert recipes: pumpkin cupcakes with brown butter cream cheese frosting, lemon ricotta cheesecake bars, sweet oatmeal cream pies.

I love the color pink! (But you already knew that.) I made several pink posts this year but these are my favorite: Hot Pink & White, Flooded Pink, Garden Party, Deep and Dark Pop of Pink, Rainbow Sherbet.

The Everygirl studio apartment tour

My apartment was featured on the Everygirl! (What an awesome way to end the year!) I know I haven’t gotten around to it yet, but I promise a post soon with more photos and details of where everything is from.

Finally, a few of my other favorite posts from this year:

I’m seriously excited for 2013! Happy New Year!

12 in ’12

2012 new year so many possibilities
Happy New Year, friends. I’m putting all of my oomph and spirit into this year and I have strong feelings that this will be a special one for us all. So with that, I’m writing 12 of my goals for 2012. I look forward to sharing these with you throughout the year. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun.

  1. Focus on what I love and do it more often. Whether at my job or at play I want to find joy in my work and product. And if I don’t, then I have the power to change it.
  2. Take care of my mind and my body. Do yoga often. Drink more water. Stretch. Strengthen my shoulder. Reflect. I want to be as healthy as I am now for my whole life for myself, family and friends.
  3. Cook my food to-do list. Why haven’t I made my own pasta yet or chocolate hazelnut macarons? I want to take advantage of my mixer, dutch oven, cookbooks and all of my kitchen toys to make new (more challenging) things.
  4. Entertain. Because I want to share all this great new food with people. So come on over, why don’t you? I’ll cook. We’ll have tons of fun.
  5. Collaborate. There are so many talented bloggers and friends I’d love to work with this year. Let’s make something pretty together.
  6. Read more. Thank goodness for my new Kindle Fire. Book Club will actually be Book Club this year. I’ve also been shamefully out of know when it comes to current events and politics. I’ll get back to reading the news every day and be informed and ready for this election.
  7. Embrace turning 25. I have until April to be ok with this number. I feel confident I’ll get there.
  8. Know my money. I want to be more aware of my finances. This means getting a credit card (and of course paying it all off on time!), knowing what to save on, and knowing what to spend on. Some big purchases are worth it (like maybe the new rug or desk or coffee table I can’t stop thinking about).
  9. Give back. I will donate more clothes, volunteer more often with my favorite DC causes, shop local, smile at strangers. Let’s all try to get along and make this world a better, more beautiful place.
  10. Stay original. Create. In this little blog world we live in, photos and topics seem to be recycled over and over. I want to push myself and everyone else to create new inspiring things for us all. (But relish in the moment when you share the same image with a fellow blogger – it’s called “great minds…”!)
  11. Treat myself and treat myself well. The past few years I’ve been very focused on the success and well-being of others. While this is in my nature and I will never stop doing this, I want to remind myself that I should be doing this for me too. I deserve it.
  12. Take risks. This is my year of risk taking, a very un-Nikki thing. But I’m determined to do it because I know it will result in great things.
So cheers to 2012! What are you looking forward to?
