Party Playlist & Gift List: Crazy Christmas Rager

I’ve teamed up with the awesome gals of This Is Our Jam for a fun and festive series this week. Take four parties: girls’ night, family dinner, holiday rager, and a night home alone (yes, that counts). Add thoughtful gifts and a killer playlist. And you’re set to go. Dance, drink, give, be merry!Cupcakes for Breakfast: Playlist/Gift List Christmas Rager

The Playlist: Every holiday season must include one crazy party. If it’s your turn to host this year, this playlist will keep the mood up with some crowd favorites — as well as some newer jams that will help you impress that brooding hipster you’ve been trying to snag. Now you just need to plan out how to get that certain someone underneath the mistletoe…

The Gifts: Aka presents for all your drunk friends! Of course, alcohol themed gifts are always appropriate, like Sarah’s Smile There’s Gin print, beer from my favorite brewery, a festive flask, or fun whiskey glasses. Without a disco ball, bring your own sparkle with metallic headphones and glitter nail polish. Make silly and temporary decisions with Tattly tattoos. You’ll need these classic Ray Bans the next morning…

Cookie Swap: Dark Chocolate, Orange, Almond Biscotti

Cupcakes for Breakfast: Dark Chocolate, Orange, Almond Biscotti

Today’s Christmas cookie post is a fun one. I teamed up with nine other bloggers for a virtual cookie swap. We’re all sharing some pretty delicious recipes!

I wanted to create a new Christmas cookie this year that incorporates the flavors of my favorite Italian Christmas confections. Dark chocolate from tri-color cookies. Orange from sfogliatelle filling. Almond from pignoli cookies. I came up with a dark chocolate, orange, almond biscotti. Perfect for a late night dessert or with your morning coffee. I just love every single one of these flavors but combined they’re kind of magical.

Cupcakes for Breakfast: Dark Chocolate, Orange, Almond Biscotti

Dark Chocolate, Orange, Almond Biscotti

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons orange zest
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup almond slivers
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a heavy large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl to blend. Using an electric mixer, cream the sugar, butter, and orange zest in a large bowl. Beat in the eggs 1 at a time. Slowly incorporate the flour mixture and beat just until blended. Stir in the chocolate chips and almonds.
  3. Form the dough into a 16-inch-long, 3-inch-wide log. Transfer the log to the prepared baking sheet. Bake until light golden, about 30 minutes. Cool 30 minutes.
  4. Place the log on the cutting board. Using a serrated knife, cut the log on a diagonal into 1/2- to 3/4-inch-thick slices. Arrange the cookies cut side down on the baking sheet. Bake the cookies until pale golden, about 15 minutes. Transfer the cookies to a rack and cool completely.

Thanksgiving Week

I’m BEYOND excited it’s Thanksgiving week. I’m in OBX with my big Italian family for a few days. There will be deep fried turkeys, antipasti, matching tshirts, fun runs, latkes, hunger games, drinking games, crafts, beach time, reading, cooking, and lounging around with my favorite people. So much to be thankful for! For all the food photos, follow along on instagram!

Chain Mail Q&A

friendship bracelets

My good friend and virtual roommate Sarah (Note to Self) pulled me and a few other girls into this fun Blogger Chain Mail series. I’m so glad she did because I needed to feel the blog love again. Read my answers below….

1. What is the most-played song in your music library? (Lifetime. Be honest.)

Taylor Swift “I Knew You Were Trouble”

2. What’s your favorite thing about your current occupation or job, whatever it may be?

This is really for a blog post to come soon (because there are so many) but the obvious thing is that my job is food. Taking photos of food, visiting farms and slaughterhouses, testing new pita bread…all in a day’s work.

3. City or country?

Oh I have to pick? Fine, city!

4. What is your coping mechanism after a really bad day?

Reading and mocha chip ice cream

5. Favorite item in your closet right now?

My new green lace Anthropologie dress – can’t wait to wear it for the holidays!

6. Skill or craft you still want to learn or work on?

Photography using a DSLR camera

7. What is your most precious keepsake?

My teddy bear named Will

8. What’s at the very tip top of your holiday wish list this year?

A DSLR camera so I can practice #6 :)

9. What’s your favorite spot in the town/city/state you currently live in?

The Red Hen – cozy space, perfect comfort food

Ok let’s keep this chain mail going! I’m passing it on to some of my friends: Christin (with a CH), Tina (East Loves West), Kate (Domestikated Life), and Liz (So Much to Smile About) with the following questions:

1. Favorite flower?
2. Most and least organized space in your home?
3. What book have you read recently that really moved you?
4. What dish are you most looking forward to at Thanksgiving dinner?
5. How do you take your coffee?
6. Thing you miss most about high school?
7. Most memorable concert?
8. Dots or stripes?
9. How do you unwind before bed?

Feel free to give your answers in the comments too! xo

Happy Weekend

hello weekend

Fall is here! Fall is here! I’m looking forward to another jam-packed DC weekend full of GW Alumni events, photo shoots, farmer’s markets, dancing, and street festivals. Hoping I can fit in a little down time too…catch up on sleep and get back to my Sunday pasta routine.

A few things I loved this week:

Checking out the awesome work from City Blossoms. Makes me want to get dirty, plant some chard, and connect with some awesome DC kids.

Dinner and lambrusco at the bar at Etto, patio beers at Bourbon, cider punch at 2 Birds 1 Stone, brown butter gelato at Dolcezzafusilli with autumn squash + chicken liver crostini + burrata at Red Hen

Today’s Creative Mornings talk was one of the best ones we’ve had in DC so far. Check out the awesome new CM site and see if they have a chapter in your city!

Hashtags, Lip Syncing, new Kings of Leon

Dating is like buying jam. And it sucks. So instead buy some Cava dips at the grocery store.

Have a happy weekend, friends! xo
